Memorial Day!

Here we stand to honor our dead;
To remember them as these words are read.
To give that honor that they have earned;
Is a lesson taught, a lesson learned.
These men and women who gave their all;
And answered God’s hallowed call.
And even though we are apart
They live on in our minds and heart.
So, bow your head and let us pray;
God bless them all on this day.

Cherry Cobbler!

Quick Cherry Cobbler....
Melt 1/2 c margarine in an 8x8 glass pan in the oven at 325.
Mix 1 c sugar; 3/4 c flour; 2 t baking powder; 1/4 t salt; 3/4 c milk. Pour this into the glass pan but do not mix. Next pour 21 oz. can of cherry pie filling on top of batter, do not stir. Bake at 325 for an hour or until golden brown. Yummmmm!
Had a wonderful time at our knitting circle yesterday with Dawn Rene, Dolores, Jackie, Nancy and Chris. Smaller group yesterday but I think we were just as loud laughing and chatting!:) I'm so thankful for this group and have such a great time each week. Hope you're having a wonderful, safe weekend!

Dogs on Thursdays...DOT!

Goodbye, classroom!
Goodbye, Teach!
You can find me at the beach...
Or in the park or at the pool
Or any place that isn’t school.

Goodbye, quizzes!Bye, reports!
Hello days packed full of sports
And days when I’m just lazybones
While eating melty ice cream cones.

Goodbye, homework --Lunchroom, too.
There’s so, so much I wanna do.
I know the school year flew on past…
But please, please summer -- last and last.
Hello, Summer! -- (A Last Day of School Poem) by Gregory K.

Knittin' Books...

I love good mail days! Received these in the mail yesterday! I'm starting the knitting guild's masters program and these were recommended...I also have a lot of books on hold at the library too, lots of reading and research! The program really questions you as to why you do things and what is the best way to do things. I've always just knit and not questioned why or how I was doing something. A big, huge change in how I approach a project now!

Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitting Workshop (Hardcover)....haven't delved into this one yet...

Knitter's Handbook : A Comprehensive Guide to the Principles and Techniques of Handknitting (Paperback) by Montse Stanley. The ultimate reference for knitters at every level-step-by-step directions and detailed instructional illustrations cover every aspect of knitting know-how. Includes a special "help!" section for the inevitable mishaps, and shows how to correct errors. They are not joking about this being the ultimate reference...every knitter needs this book...so many things I've never even heard of. The illustrations could be a bit better though.

The Knitters Book of Finishing Techniques (Spiral-bound) by, Nancie Wiseman. Love that this is spiral bound because it lays nicely on the table!:) Always a plus! Knitted one too many sweaters that scream "homemade"? Help is here! Finishing techniques are the key to turning out professional-looking projects. This comprehensive reference gives you the know-how you need to get gorgeous, polished results every time. This is my favorite book...out of all my knitting books this one ranks number 1! Perfect illustrations, pros and cons on different techniques, just love it!

Vogue Knitting and The Knitting Answer Book have also been extremely helpful!

Another fun Saturday at Grandma's Yarns & Notions!!
Dawn Rene working on her beautiful cardigan; Luanne working on a baby cardigan; I was working on a shawl; Jackie working on her socks; Nicole (FFF) working on leg warmers; Marilyn working on baby cardigan; Angie some wrist warmers; Nancy a cardigan; and new Nicole working on socks and getting to know us. Also the glass guy, Chris learned to knit!:) We have so much fun laughing, giggling, and chatting...I look forward to every Saturday!:) Luanne used to live in the bay area and with all the water conservation she found this recipe....she liked it so well she still makes salmon this way...had to share it because it was too awesome not to! Gotta get me some salmon!
Salmon in a Dishwasher!!

Needs:
salmon fillets
aluminum foil
a lemon
a few butter pats
electric dishwasher
Place the fish on two large sheets of aluminum foil. Squeeze on some lemon juice and place the pats of butter on the salmon fillets. Seal the fillets well in the foil, and place the foil packet in the top wire basket of your electric dishwasher. DO NOT ADD SOAP OR DETERGENT. Close the dishwasher door, set the dishwasher on the hottest wash cycle, complete with drying cycle, and let it run through a full cycle. When the cycle is complete the fish will be cooked just right!!

Award & Bricks!

I have been nominated by the sweet, Rhoda! Thank you, Rhoda. :)

If you receive this award these are the rules:

You must pass this on to 11 other bloggers you think are fantastic!

You must also link back to the person who gave it to you. This is also a great way to find new blogs to follow! So without further ado, here are the bloggers who inspire me...

My sourdough bricks...A friend last week gave me a sourdough starter and recipe/directions. Well it usually helps to read all directions first....I proceeded to make it, perfect overcast day to bake....I added too much starter to the flour, thought "oh crap" so doubled all the other ingredients....kneaded it for 20 minutes (well the kitchenaid kneaded) then let it set for 30 minutes...in the mean time I'm calling my aunt and mom to see if they have extra bread pans because I only have two, mom came to the rescue and brought me all they had. Then I notice the recipe says it has to sit for 15 hours...WHAT? Couldn't even bake it till this morning...and I got these sorry looking lumps of yuck. If I threw it against the wall it'd break the wall!:( This is the second time I've tried to make sourdough and with a complete different starter/recipe. I don't think I'm destined to be a bread baker!

Nicole putting the already prepared fiber (was in a bath of Dawn) into the dye baths.
At this point she has poured one of the dyes into the trays already.

Nicole pouring one of the shades on top of the roving...
After this is on it, it marinates for the day...then its rinsed..spun in the washer...put in a big steamer....hung to dry...braided....then ready for you to buy!:)

Some yummy merino/tussah roving in the colorway Cherry Season I bought!
Going to turn this into an Ishbel!:)

Some more gorgeous FFFiber in bombyx/merino called Marigold.
Restrained from buying green and one called California Poppies..very hard because all of her rovings are soooooo drool worthy!:) You can go get yourself some on her etsy site...FreckleFaceFibers! Her fibers are the only ones I have spin and knit with and they are just as wonderful to work with as they are to look at!

Tutti Fruiti Tuesday

Lots of pears on the pear trees...

We have a pomegranate on our pomegranate tree!

Lots and lots of peaches on the peach trees!

Nectarines....

I know James will know this by looking at it...can't remember if this is the cherry on the cherry tree or if its the granny smith apple tree....I thought I'd forgotten to take pictures of the apple trees...ooooh have lots of strawberries too but forgot to take pics of that too....no fruit yet on the blackberry bushes and nothing on the grapevines yet....
Just excited that we're going to have fruit this year! As long as the squirrels, chipmunks and birds leave it alone!:)

Apple Cozy's

Made James an apple cozy for his apple today in his lunch...can't wait to hear what he says about it! Every day at lunch him and his coworkers cut up their fruit they bring and share it...thought they'd get a kick out of James' special fruit!:)

Then it was so cute, I made another to place at the LYS. Its a cute "granny" type of decoration for them since the store is called Grandma's Yarns and Notions. Quick and easy pattern too, you can find it on my ravelry page. While I was crocheting them I watched Hannah Montana the Movie....what an awesome movie, soooo good. Even went and downloaded a few of the songs from itunes! Definitely will be watching it again and again! Even James and Jimmy watched it (I made them) and thought it was good!:)
Remember FREE shipping at wolfefarms.net until Mother's Day...its fast approaching!
Also the FREE lavender soap sample is on the site to try!

Saturday...

Another thing I forgot to mention on Thursday was Fuji's new collar....her favorite toy is her froggy; found this cute princess frog collar on etsy....wellllllll, its huge, almost two inches wide, she can't even bend her neck down and the thing that clips together is even bigger. Her collars are usually 1/2 in......so disappointed. As you can see she hides her head in shame....just so heavy she can't lift her head....poor poor puppy, back to her old collar! None of the pics with her with it on turned out because she was not a happy camper! I'll have to put the collar on my stuff toy chihuahua!:)

Made these baby booties yesterday to go with the bunny hat. They're so sweet! Made these while watching The Ugly Truth, very good movie! A romantic comedy with Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl....
Off to enjoy a day stitchin' at Grandma's Yarns....
