Scrappy Happy Blankie!

These are a few of the 2in. mitered squares I've done for my Scrappy Happy Blankie....after you knit enough for your base row you start connecting them.. These are made out of scrap sock yarn....although I don't have that big of stash to have enough scrap yarn so......

my friend, Manda, sent me a bunch of her sock yarn scraps! This was sooooo sweet of her...she's doing this blankie too! This girl has knit sooo many fabulous socks, she's knitpsycho on ravelry and has wonderful projects! Its so much fun using her scraps because I've never used a lot of the dyers she has..its fabulous!

These are mini skeins from Threadbear called Penny Candy...they even sent me extras! Super fabulous customer service, so friendly! They don't have an online store so you have to call them.

These mini skeins are from a swapless swap on the Blankie Mania group on Ravelry...Kangaroo Dyer...fabulous colorways!
This blankie is a wonderful way to use up scraps...if you don't want your scraps you can always send them my way!:) These little squares are so addicting..like chips you can't make just one!

Dogs on Thursdays...DOT!

Homeschooled Smarty!

Fuji separating her chew toys from her stuff toys!
She's very organized! She does this all by herself....she'll even separate them by colors sometimes, usually by pink or green. It's so funny to see a whole pile of pink or green toys. Now to teach her to put them back into her baskets....
Happy DOT!!

Technological Advances on the Farm...

350 - W Western Electric Hand Crank Telephone
Western Electric Company was from 1881-1995 an American Electrical Engineering Company.
Headquarters in New York City, NY. Customers did not own their own phones but leased them...for more info on this company click the link.
The Western Electric number 317 magneto wall phones were introduced in 1907 and remained in production for about thirty years. The model number remained the same however, many changes were seen in the phone through the years.
The earliest version of the 317 was in production for a short time. The back board had an arched top with the line terminals attached. This is called a cathedral top. The door had a decorative groove routed around the base of the transmitter which is referred to as a picture frame front. This phone used a No. 122 Western Electric receiver with external terminals (commonly called a 'pony' receiver) and a No. 229 solid-back transmitter. Internally, the earliest phones had a 'red bar' magneto that was commonly found in the model 301 phones. Note that the door was hinged to open left to right. This was found to interfere with the magneto crank and later versions of the 317 had door arrangements to open right to left.

Jimmy's cell phone...:) Wonder what apps it has?

My Dad gave this to us....traded some tractor parts for this practically perfect condition antique! Thanks Dad for your wheelin' and dealin'!!

Wee Tiny Lucky Sock!

Received my January Wee Tiny Sock kit on Saturday.
ShibuiKnits Silk Cloud (60% Mohair and 40% silk)...which was a pain to knit with...like knitting with nose hair! This started at the cuff knitting back and forth instead of in the round...then joins at the ankle, a short row heel, wedge toe and the beads are sewn on the leg to seam it closed. The colorway is "Chinese Red" and reminded the designer of Chinese spring festival. Red is lucky because it is thought to scare away evil spirits. The kit included 8 beads because 8 is associated with wealth (I only used six because they broke when threading them.) Kit included chop sticks, Chinese hard candy, beads, yarn, and Chinese calender.

My finished sock!

Mother Bear Project...

Mother Bear Project....Bear #1 finished!

The Mother Bear Project is dedicated to providing comfort and hope to children affected by HIV/AIDS in emerging nations, by giving them a gift of love in the form of a hand-knit or crocheted bear. The simple gift of a hand-knit bear with a tag signed by the knitter has touched children with the message that they are unconditionally loved.

This is a KAL/CAL that Dr. Gemma from the Cogknitive Podcast is doing and thought you might want to go over and join in with this!

Get out those scraps and warm up those hooks and/or needles!
Send completed bears with $3.00 to cover cost of postage for shipping to Africa to:

Mother Bear Project P.O. Box 62188 Minneapolis, MN 55426

Volunteers will sew a red felt heart onto your bear’s chest. If you did not buy a tag from them, volunteers will also fill out one for you, with your name or anyone’s name you suggest on it, to be attached to your bear.
These bears are meant to be personal, so each child will know the name of a person who loves them and is thinking of them!

For more info on the KAL/CAL check out Wolfe Farms group on Rav or the Cogknitive Podcast group. Super fun to make!

Navy Lapghan!

Finished my second lapghan! It's a lot darker than the pic so was hard working on at night. Love this crochet pattern. Hope you guys are all having a great time working on your lapghans for the contest...don't forget the deadline has been pushed to April 1 so no need to rush!:)

Had a really busy weekend: changing beds, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, laundry/ironing...made blueberry muffins, cranberry orange muffins and lemon tea cookies.

Saw Inglorious Bastards....ug don't bother...I really dislike Quintin Taratinos movies. We are watching the series Tudors though which is awesome...still on the first season!

This week we're supposed to have rainstorms that are the worst we've had since 2004...started raining last night (yeah)!! Put up a rain gauge so we can see how much rain we actually get. I just love the overcast weather...love love love it!

Went to knit meet yesterday too...had about 22 people show up...seemed like a lot more in this coffee shop though. Boy did we get the looks from other customers! Had a wonderful time! I got to meet Courtsgram (Luann) whom I've only met online and playing Words With Friends! Such a lovely lady! Also got to hang out with my friend DawnRene who just got back from AK where her dad was really ill, so glad she made it back safely and that he is recovering. Limejuicy (Sarah) even came and knit with me for a bit too, hadn't got to hang out with her in awhile! So much chit chat going on with so many people it was a blast! I'm lucky to have such great friends in real life and online...truly blessed and am blessed by them each and every day!:)

Woolgirl December Kit...

This just came this past week...my last Woolgirl 2009 kit. I'm not doing this club this coming year because I haven't had time to knit any of the kits from this whole last year and have some from the previous year too! Its fun getting these packages every couple of months but also very expensive. Want to knit/crochet out of my stash a bit!
Kit includes:
1 skein of Yarn Love Juliet fingering sock yarn in the Sugared Grapefruit colorway.
A sock pattern and a hat/mitt pattern.
A custom pink buddy case from Namaste...exclusive color for Woolgirl.
Hot cocoa, a heart shaped whisk and hand-made vanilla marshmallows from www.haveitsweet.com. A set of four petite soaps from Naiad Soap Arts..cough cough.
Sweet Treat Postcards and a stitch marker.
Sillyfru from Sassypantsknitter Podcast did another wonderful review of our lotion/soaps and mentioned the contest I'm having. Very touching and I thank her so much for her support!

Tiny Solar Sock!

Worked on my Wee Tiny Solar Sock this weekend so I could get it entered into the groups contest thread on Ravelry. It had really odd construction. You started with an i-cord heel....moved on to the gussets...did the foot/toe (I really dislike two color knitting, too fussy)...then the leg. I'm so glad this was a teeny sock because I definitely would of had second sock syndrome. It was done with Dream in Color Starry which was nice, no splitting or anything negative. Don't know if I care for the silver bits in it though...Hope you all had a great weekend!

From my niece...

My sweet niece, Lila, sent me this beautiful yarn as a thank you for making her her special pig! She named the pig "Barnyard." I'm wondering if she picked that name from the pink pig book I sent with it, I should of read it!:) They picked the Earth Arts Churro yarn when they were visiting Ghost Ranch. Wish she didn't live so far away in NM where I could give her a big hug! Virtual hugs and kisses sent her way....xoxoxo

**CONTEST**

Hi Blog Buddies!

As some of you may know my grandma had to be put into a nursing home a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been visiting her a lot and have noticed so many people up there are just abandoned, no family comes to visit, no friends……so I was thinking of making some lapghans for them. Its a little thing that will mean so much to them and be very useful when they are in their wheelchairs, brighten their beds, and to just show them that there are people who care. My son is knitting one and I just completed one last night and starting another.

I thought I’d turn this into a contest in order to be able to provide them with more than what I can do. I’m going to run this until April 1 where I will use the random number generator to pick three winners….everyone will receive a special thank you from us just for participating. First place will be a Deluxe Wolfe Farms gift basket…Second place will be your choice of four herbal soaps….and third will be soap/lotion set.

The lapghans need to be in washable materials. Approximately 32 x 37 inches. Knit/Crocheted/Weaved. Every lapghan will be an entry. You can pm me on rav for my home address or send it to:

Wolfe Farms P.O. Box 10064 Lancaster, CA. 93584-2064

I’m looking forward to and praying for a great turnout! Love and Blessings, Dawn
