Knittin' Books...

I love good mail days! Received these in the mail yesterday! I'm starting the knitting guild's masters program and these were recommended...I also have a lot of books on hold at the library too, lots of reading and research! The program really questions you as to why you do things and what is the best way to do things. I've always just knit and not questioned why or how I was doing something. A big, huge change in how I approach a project now!

Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitting Workshop (Hardcover)....haven't delved into this one yet...

Knitter's Handbook : A Comprehensive Guide to the Principles and Techniques of Handknitting (Paperback) by Montse Stanley. The ultimate reference for knitters at every level-step-by-step directions and detailed instructional illustrations cover every aspect of knitting know-how. Includes a special "help!" section for the inevitable mishaps, and shows how to correct errors. They are not joking about this being the ultimate reference...every knitter needs this book...so many things I've never even heard of. The illustrations could be a bit better though.

The Knitters Book of Finishing Techniques (Spiral-bound) by, Nancie Wiseman. Love that this is spiral bound because it lays nicely on the table!:) Always a plus! Knitted one too many sweaters that scream "homemade"? Help is here! Finishing techniques are the key to turning out professional-looking projects. This comprehensive reference gives you the know-how you need to get gorgeous, polished results every time. This is my favorite book...out of all my knitting books this one ranks number 1! Perfect illustrations, pros and cons on different techniques, just love it!

Vogue Knitting and The Knitting Answer Book have also been extremely helpful!

Books...

How I love Amazon.com.....:)
I loved the Susan B. Anderson book Itty Bitty Hats so much I ordered her other books. They are just as fantastic!
Itty Bitty Nursery has forty adorable items....jackets, mittens, toys, slippers, pacifer clips, an adorable mobile, a knitted tea set (which I adore and might make for myself!):)
Itty Bitty Toys is chocked full of adorable toys to make...think I want to make every single one in the book! They even have reversible toys which are totally awesome. For example the frog can turn into a turtle or an egg becomes a bluebird. Soooo cute!
The Sweetgum Ladies Knit for Love by Beth Pattillo. Once a month, the six women of the Sweetgum Knit Lit Society gather to discuss books and share their knitting projects. Inspired by her recently-wedded bliss, group leader Eugenie chooses “Great Love Stories in Literature” as the theme for the year’s reading list–a risky selection for a group whose members span the spectrum of age and relationship status. As the Knit Lit ladies read and discus classic romances like Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights, and Pride and Prejudice, each member is confronted with her own perception about love. Camille’s unexpected reunion with an old crush forces her to confront conflicting desires. Newly widowed Esther finds her role in Sweetgum changing and is surprised by two unlikely friends. Hannah isn’t sure she’s ready for the trials of first love. Newcomer Maria finds her life turned upside-down by increasing family obligations and a handsome, arrogant lawyer, and Eugenie and Merry are both asked to make sacrifices for their husbands that challenge their principles.Even in a sleepy, southern town like Sweetgum, Tennesee, love isn’t easy. The Knit Lit ladies learn they can find strength and guidance in the novels they read, the love of their family, their community–and especially in each other.
Sweater Quest by Adrienne Martini. Martini writes about her choice to knit the complicated Alice Starmore Fair Isle sweater pattern, known as Mary Tudor, and records her 12 months’ experience.
Spinning Forward by Terri Dulong. Sydney Webster's comfortable New England life comes crashing down when her husband dies suddenly, leaving her penniless and evicted. She had no idea about his huge gambling debts, and is getting no sympathy from her hurt and angry twenty something daughter. With nowhere else to turn, Sydney takes shelter at a college friend's B&B in Cedar key, Florida, where she begins to form a plan. As Syd turns her talent at spinning wool and knitting into a retail venture, other doors begin to open. She steps into the embrace of a community rich with love, laughter, friendship...and secrets. And soon she faces a choice: spin a safety net, or spin forward and never look back. Entertaining and heart warming, this superb debut will win readers over with its real-life challenges and quirky and compelling characters.
After I finish these three novels I'll have to go stalk Courtney's shelfari...she's always reading great books!
Looking forward to Saturday Stitchin' at my lys...tomorrow my friend DawnRene is bringing her notebook and going to show us all a software demo. My homework from her was to knit a swatch, recording all the sts./rows/gauge/needles etc....then she'll plug this all in and presto changeo a sweater pattern will pop out!:) Can't wait to see this work, although I have the feeling I'll probably want this once I see it in action!:)

Shreddin' & Readin'

On Twitter there are five of us who started the Couch to 5K a couple of weeks ago...then one of them found this DVD and got us talked into doing it too. OMG....this is a butt kicker workout plus it has 3 levels! We're only on Level 1...haven't even looked at any of the other levels, can't even imagine the pain on those ones! The first couple of days I could barely walk...we have a sunk in family/living room and trying to step up or down on those to make it to the other side was a killer. Then trying to use the bathroom was a whole other story, had to ease on to the toilet just to go potty! Really wanted James to install those handrails in the bathroom area so I'd having something to grip onto!:) Took a day off and then did it again and it has eased up a bit...still a rough workout but no pain no gain right!:) Haven't been doing my C25K because I couldn't function after this workout but might try to add it back with this this coming week! Its fun that were keeping each other accountable on twitter too!

Ordered these books from amazon the other day..maybe my Jillian workout will get me in shape to knit a wild bikini...haha

I'm currently reading the Patterns in the Sand...I'm about 3/4 of the way through...a little long and could have been told in less time but still a good read. Also reading a book on my iphone which I downloaded the whole series called Midnight Awakening which are really, really, really good vampire books!:)

New Books!!!

My new books I ordered from Amazon came today..all except for one which is being shipped separately. Of course I started a new book last night so will have to wait to get started on these ones!
A Fine Fleece by Lisa Lloyd is knitting with handspun yarns and has 26 patterns in it. Just a beautiful book too, the photography in it is phenomenal!
The Intentional Spinner by Judith MacKenzie McCuin. It has technical knowledge, history, practical information, step by step instructions and four projects showing the fiber to finishing.
Summer on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber. She is one of my favorite authors and love her series on a fictional knitting store and its patrons. This is the fourth in the series.
From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris. This is the eighth book in her Sookie Stackhouse series. There is also a series on HBO called True Blood based on these books. They'll soon be coming out on Netflix so I can watch them! I waited for this to come out in paperback so it'd match my other ones...having to wait on the ninth for the same reason.
Summer of Fire by Linda Jacobs. The scene of this book is based in the Yellowstone National Park and its on fire....the main character is a fire fighter that just witnessed her best friend die in a fire..the other is a Vietnam vet looking for a good time...Ranger Steve is scarred by the loss of his wife and baby in a plane crash...
Rain of Fire by Linda Jacobs. This is also based in Yellowstone National Park. It's about the largest volcano and geologist Kyle Stone is monitoring it as well as a Ranger and a volcanologist whom is her former love. More than the volcano is heating up in this novel!
Can't wait to get started on them!:)

Jimmy's doing a great job with the drop spindle...even mentioned he might have to knit something out of it!:) He sits with me while I spin and he drop spindles...lots of fun!

Fun....

Jimmy and I decided to have a fun day on Groundhog day. We returned his Wii game to Blockbuster...then went to Petsmart for some big doggy food and treats for Fuji...mosied on over to Target because he wanted to look at Neopet cards....then our big destination, Barnes and Nobles. We spent so much time and had so much fun in there. He chose a Garfield comic book and I sat and looked and looked and looked at knit/crochet books. He read a good quarter of the book before we went to the magazine section. I have to tell you though the magazine section suckerood for the knit/crochet magazines...all they had was Interweave Knit! This is a huge store and that's all they had! Soooooo of course we had to go to Michaels because I could feel the coupon in my purse saying "use me!" Guess what? They had some knit/crochet magazines! Also got some stuff to make crochet stitch markers...I didn't have any..I either use scrap yarn or a safety pin! Of course some yarn jumped into the cart! Then we went to another Target because the one we went to didn't have what he was looking for...found those and I also found a fabric shaver...boy does it really get the pills off felted things! Then we went home and had some lunch. All the while he was reading his new book in the car...he's already half way done! That might mean another trip to Barnes and Noble!:) The yellowish yarn is to crochet myself a cowboy hat out of the Happy Hooker book. The blue yarn is to design my grandma something special for her birthday. She'll be 90 this year and also she's the one who taught me to crochet so thought it'd be perfect to make her something. Her birthday is the same day as mine! Hope I live as long as her...she's healthy as a horse too! She still drives, crochets, goes to church, goes to friends and plays cards or do each others hair, walks and takes care of her plants. Would never know she's that old!:) How great is that!

These are the crochet stitch markers I made! A lot prettier than scrap yarn, huh?

Today is a not so fun day....the second half of the root canal. At least I'll have some cool magazines to read while I'm waiting to numb up! Although I might get so nervous I bend the pages...that would be tragic! Wish me luck!

Books...

Jimmy reading his new Peanuts comic book!

Got some new books in the mail. There's some really cute crochet patterns in the Happy Hooker...really want to make the crocheted cowboy hat. Finally got the Knit Two book too, there's been so many books I've been wanting to read that this has just been sitting in my wish list area of amazon. I'm still reading the Charlaine Harris books though so when I'm finished with those I'll start this one.
Did get the new Creative Knitting and Knit n' Style magazines yesterday. Nothing seems to pop out to me...I don't think I've ever made anything from the magazines I receive. I get so many patterns on Ravelry that I have a list of "to do's." Do you knit patterns from these magazines or other that you subscribe to? Let me know. I do love looking at them though!:)
