Knit Twit Meet!

Had our knit meet at my house this weekend due to the extreme heat here in the desert of California. Our lys, Grandma's Yarns, doesn't have air conditioning so the group wanted to move where there was one so they could be comfortable and knit. As someone said, heat felts wool! I offered to host it and we had a fabulous time! They're all looking forward to the next get together!:)

Lft. to Rt. (Jackie, DawnRene (not pictured), Chris, Nicole (who came early to hang out with me):), Me, Lorena, and Kristina. Spouses and friends showed up too but aren't pictured! They enjoyed the yummy refreshments though! Had cookies, creme horns, eclairs, creme puffs, angel food cake with strawberries, and a watermelony drink! I had a table set up for Chris to display all his beautiful glass hooks, needles, dpn's, and jewelry. He makes such beautiful items. You can see his products at Intricate By Design!

Fuji stayed right by her Momma! She was a good girl...barked when they came in but then just stayed right next to me. The hearth was not close enough to me so she eventually climbed into my lap as I was spinning. Kind of hard to spin with a pup!:) She was exhausted last night from all the partying!
Thanks for coming and having a great time Knit Twits!

Beach Babe!

Hot Weather Tips:
Keep pets indoors in the extremely hot weather. In the shade it is still in the 100's here in the California desert. :(
Do not over exercise them or walk them on hot concrete/asphalt.
Give them a summer haircut to keep them cool.
Provide plenty of fresh/clean water at all times.
Never leave them in a parked car in the summer heat, even with the windows cracked a car is like a furnace in the summer.
Make sure sunscreen and insect repellent is safe for animals.
Other tips at ASPCA!
Happy DOT!

Flamingo Skirt!

Courtsgram (Luanne) came over yesterday to give me another sewing lesson. We had so much fun! She brought her Bernina Serger and her Bernina Virtuoso. She taught me how to do seams with the serger, wow that thing is amazing! Made the above skirt mainly on the serger! I also got to work with her machine which was great fun and so see what all the wonderful things being said about Bernina really are. Think I'm pretty much sold on a Bernina now especially after working with one and seeing/feeling it. It feels like a machine whereas the others feel like plastic boxes. Now to just find one!:)

Quilting!

Yesterday I had my first quilting lesson at Big City Fabrics, taught by Jean!
We looked at the pattern in the above book to see what we would need. I'm doing the rail fence quilt. I first got to choose the main fabric that had at least three colors in it (top big square). Next I chose coordinating fabrics to make the strips/squares. I got to learn how to measure and cut them all out. It was lunch time by then so we all sat and had lunch and chit chatted. Now was time to dig out my machine (Singer 7300)....tried to wind the bobbin and it didn't want to cooperate...she said it was the gears in the machine messed up and that I should put it to rest. We wound the bobbin on her machine so I could at least try to sew with mine. Wellllllll, I don't have a 1/4 in. foot, nor does my needle move to adjust it so I can sew that size seam. Now I was almost in tears....she went and got one of the Brother Innovis 40's for me to use. Wow weee it practically sews by itself! I practiced sewing straight lines for about 45 minutes. I think I'm straight line challenged! Finally started looking right instead of me looking like a drunk sewer! Could of used a drink about this time, lol! Had a fantastic time except for the machine fiasco...next lesson is Thursday where I start sewing the pieces together!

Sewing....

I haven't been blogging this past week because I've been learning to sew!:)
Courtsgram (Luanne) has taught me how to sew a skirt....cherry skirt above she helped me with and the watermelon skirt below I did all by myself! I must be in a fruity mood; cherries/watermelons! Bought some cool flamingo fabric too to make another skirt. Some flannel to make Jimmy some pj pants. Also got some cool fat quarters to make some napkins...another step in being green! Just signed up for a quilt class too, which I can't wait to take!
Fuji modeling too!:) Maybe I should sew her a skirt too!:)
Off to celebrate my Grandma's and mine birthday...have a wonderful weekend!

Dogs on Thursdays...DOT!

Fireworks are not a blast for pets!

Pets become frightened and frantic from the noise and run off...shelters are accustomed to receiving 4th of July dogs...Plan ahead and take some precautions:

Resist the urge to take your pet to the fireworks displays.
Do not leave your pet in the car.
Keep them indoors at home in a sheltered, quiet area.
If you know your pet is seriously distressed by loud noises consult with your vet for ways to alleviate their discomfort.
Never leave them outside unattended, even in a fenced yard.
Make sure your pets are wearing identification tags so that if they become lost they can be returned promptly.

Hope you and your pet have a safe and happy fourth of July weekend!
Happy DOT!
