Books & Gardening

Received some new books: Sunset Western Garden Book; Closely Knit by Hannah Fettig - handmade gifts for the ones you love; Dream Toys by Claire Garland - a collection of knit and crochet fantastical toys (really cute dolphin, horse, unicorn and mermaid plus little sea creatures!) Hannah Fettig will be at the Scarlet Skein in Atascadero, CA on November 1st! I was going to go but that's the day after Halloween and wouldn't have time to get there. Oh well!

Been doing lots of gardening. Tried to get all the plants/trees in the picture but it didn't work. The whole back porch is lined with plants. Most of them are in 1 gallon pots and I have been transferring them all to 5 gallon pots...lots more to go! Its so relaxing and fun. Thought we were going to get a good rain yesterday but it only lasted for four minutes...didn't even wet the whole ground!:( Maybe this weekend we will get some!

Snoopy Cloth!

Finished my Snoopy Cloth! Its huge too....12in. both ways!

Was really fun to do...now I'll have to do Woodstock!

Went shopping and to a nursery yesterday because Jimmy and I are planning a fairy garden. Went to a couple $1 stores and bought knick knacks and stuff for it. Going to be really fun. Also working on all the plants/trees we've bought. Weekends are the only time for extra stuff because so busy with school and swimming. I was even coached last night...he changed my freestyle stroke (which at first was awkward but now its easier) and also worked on my breast stroke. Might try to go today so I can practice what he told me, also to work out the stiffness from using different muscles!:) Then theres the weekly cleaning chores, school grading reports....need to find some knitting time!:) Have a wonderful weekend!

Still crocheting baby stuff, froggin sock on needles (they're not knitting themselves for some reason) and a Snoopy washcloth. Not much knitting going on with school and swimming.

Elvish Leaves Dishcloth - FO

FO (Finished Object)...Elvish Leaves Dishcloth...turned out so pretty! This weeks dishcloth is Snoopy and Woodstock...they're soooo cute! I'll have to do both of them! I started to cast on for a tree frog cloth and they wanted 63 sts on size 8 needles the thing would have been a hand towel instead of a dishcloth! Going to get the Snoopy/Woodstock printed out and cast on tonight.

Went to the nursery again and got some more plants and about seven more trees. Also got a 10 x 12 greenhouse yesterday so I can start making more trees/plants. Its going to be so much fun! We ordered some books on propagating and have been reading them but the nursery guy told us of another one...Amazon here we come...of course some knitting books always seem to pop into my cart!

Went to Bath and Bodyworks yesterday and bought a whole bunch of Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin lotion, handsoap, room spray...It gave me such a migraine, I'm going to have to take it back. It doesn't smell pumkiny either...has a musky smell...I wanted more of the creamy pumpkin pie, nutmeggy smell..not! Of course I didn't buy just one either, got three of each!:(

Elvish Leaves Dishcloth

Finished the Ponchette this morning...doesn't look much different than the post before so didn't take another pic of it. Casted on for this weekly dishcloth...its the Elvish Leaves Dishcloth. Jimmy had a couple of tests so was able to do a little knitting!:) History and Math test both A's! Whoohoo! Had a dentist appt. Monday to get fitted for crowns...ouchy mama, they had to give me advil before I left the office...some band they pushed down into the gums really hurt..still hurts and is swollen. No wonder I don't go back till October 6, they gotta give you time to heal!

Jimmy in La Jolla Cove....headed home yesterday!

Some goodies...soap book, soap, soap making kit from Summers Past Farms...and some yarn from the Grove.

The lace weight yarn is Euroflax Paris in sage.

Casted on for this ponchette on Thursday driving to La Jolla and this is how much I'd gotten done by yesterday on the way back. I'm to the decreasing part but was too tired to finish it!

Saturdays excursions...

Went to the Museum of Man at Balboa Park to see the Egyptian mummies!

Walked around the park to see the Japanese garden and the huge buildings. Such a beautiful place to visit and see things!

Then went to an herbal garden...Summers Past Farms. Had an awesome time here, very pretty. I bought a bunch of homemade soap and even got a soap making kit. So excited to try this out too. Lots of beautiful plants and scenery....huge pumpkin patch right behind us too! After this we went to another yarn store...icky and didn't buy anything. It was barely a room size, dark and very unfriendly..people didn't even say hello! That ones off my list!

Then we went to the cove to swim with the fishies! So awesome!

The orange fish is the CA state marine fish...Garibaldi!

Have no idea what the silver fish were, but they were quite big! Also saw some striped fish too. Tried to touch them but they swim away to quick into this grassy marsh stuff.

Here's another CA fish...Jimmy! He loved this..of course its water!:) Last year he swam the rough water swim here in La Jolla but didn't want to do it this year, just wanted to play and enjoy himself.

Coming home today....

Yesterday on Vacation...

We started out the day walking along the cove. Saw lots of birds, squirrels, and sea lions. Then we went down to walk on the ocean...Jimmy went after a shell and got caught by a wave...he's soaking wet in this picture. Of course I'm a big kid too the whole bottom of my dress is wet! The water was 67 degrees! brrr. Going to see if its better today, not that it matters because we want to use the underwater camera we go to take pics of fish!

After Jimmy showered and changed went to Balboa Park...there's over 13 museums here!
This is the botanical garden we went too. Just beautiful.

Reminded us of the Chevy Chase movie European Vacation...got a big laugh of us maybe getting in it like they did in the movie!:)

The whole science center was hands on activities...very fun!

After this we found a yarn store....The Grove...got some nice linen lace weight yarn in a sage color. Nice store but was so exhausted to even look at yarn...you know your tired when you don't want to look at yarn! More to come later....

Going to Balboa park again to see the Egyptian Museum, Natural History Museum...going to go to an Herb Garden, maybe another yarn store...and the ocean!

La Jolla Arrival....

We're here in sunny, San Diego!

James getting everything hooked up! Of course I snap the picture as he's hooking up the poop shoot!:) Jimmy below getting ready to ride his bike around the campground. After we got everything leveled and hooked up we went on a walk. Found the indoor theatre, game room, kitchen, laundry room, fitness center and of course the heated pool/jacuzzi! Jimmy and James played ping pong and billiards then we all went swimming together! After we changed went to McDonalds for dinner. Then we had to go to Staples because James needed a cord for the tv and while he was in there Jimmy and I went to Petsmart next door. The coolest Petsmart ever...it had an animal hotel which looked like something out of Beverly Hills...very posh! Of course I got Fuji an adorable stuffed dog toy in a swim team outfit and a bone. Gotta make up for leaving my precious, sweet baby. She's in good hands though with Grandma!:) Gonna go boogie boarding and swimming with the fish today...whoohoo!:)

The friendships we've made through our blogginess is priceless and I treasure it....

Today is preparing the trailer, packing, shopping for last minute things, laundry, etc. Tomorrow we'll be on the road.....La Jolla (San Diego) we're on our way!:)

Frog sock & plants...

Finished one of my Woolgirl Froggin' socks! Now on to cast on the other one!

Love the bright colors in this yarn...its fun to knit with because a new color keeps popping up as your knitting with it. The only thing I don't like is you can't see the patterning of the pattern because of the multi colored yarn. Very cool though. They even fit Jimmy! He's getting too big!

At a garage sale yesterday we bought over thirty some plants and seven trees from this really nice, Korean lady named Sunny. She was so informative and had such great deals that we went back twice to load up the truck. She had some really unique plants that are going to be fun to grow and grow more of them from the previous ones. She informed me how to do each one so they make more and how to care for them. Even said to come back anytime, just knock on her door. She even gave me some as gifts. Had a fun time with her. Whats also fun is we're studying plants in Jimmy's science curriculum...what timing! When we got to La Jolla Thursday we're going to make a field trip to a botanical garden...the rest of the time is going to be swimming in the surf and taking pics of all the fish in the cove! Fun in the sun!:)

She made and brought brownies to her group yesterday. She's so sweet and an excellent coach!

This is the beautiful pool he gets to swim in. The area is so pretty too.

They had 35 teen swimmers and 12 younger ones yesterday! That's not even the whole team! Very awesome to see all the teens when they're swimming together! They're so good!

Here are my 6 quirky things:
1. I love to swim but can't stand to have water on my face in the shower!
2. I can't stand when those in my family throw trash on the counter when the trash can is right there...why? why? :)
3. I hate wrinkles on my bed sheets...they have to be smoothed out before I get in. Yes, I can feel them like the princess with the pea!
4. Like to have my salad dressing in a container so I can dip my fork into it instead of it all over my salad making the lettuce limp and soggy!
5. I sleep better when the room is cool and my fan is making a clicking noise. If not the fan then either the humidifier or sound machine noise.
6. I hate to pump gas in the car....thats hubby's job! Just one of those weird hang ups of mine!

Master's swim was cancelled last night because we need to get USA swim card so were insured when we're swimming. Bummer! The pool I usually do laps in is closed for a month so had to go to an outdoor pool today. So weird swimming outside! That sounds quirky doesn't it!? Have to go to Sports Chalet and get a new swim cap cuz mine broke today...had to wear a neon green Oasis cap, which made me stick out like a sore thumb. Gotta get Jimmy ready for swim team practice. Have a great day!

Tooth Day

Had the second half of my root canal done today....ouchy! Normal people have 2-3 roots on the tooth they did but oh no I have to have special teeth and have 5 roots! Lucky me! At least its over!

Planted 5 trees this weekend in our yard...starting to look like someone lives here! Maybe the landscaping people will stop putting their cards in our mailbox!:) Whats wrong with dirt? :)

Tonight the Masters swim team starts....going to give it a shot even though my mouth is hurting...ooh shot bad choice of words!

Guess what? I won a contest on Alana's blog! You had to leave a comment about a funny sweater story on her blog and I won! I get either a magazine or her adorable sock pattern. So cool. Her podcasts are really good so check her out sometime!

I started another baby blanket (crocheted) and working on the Froggin' socks every now and then. Haven't done much of either one. Tootles!
